This is a digital print poster of Mother Goddess slaying the demon Mahishasura. The image depicts the time of Durgapooja festival.
Iconography: Mother Goddess Durga is the Adi Shakti (earliest or the primordial feminine energy), the strength, knowledge and the supreme divine feminine. But above all, she is the loving mother who nourishes, protects and takes care of her devotees. The goddess is shown with ten hands, seated on a lion and killing a demon called Mahishasur in his half human-half bull form. Her ten hands carry the weapons - chakra, conch, bow, arrow, sword, javelin, shield, and a noose. These symbolize self-discipline, selfless service to others, self-examination, prayer, devotion, remembering her mantras, cheerfulness and meditation. She is the warrior, protector goddess and her face is calm & serene even while killing the demon since she is not violent but does the act to protect the good. The demon's half human-half bull symbolises the ever changing infinite desires of the fickle human mind. The Goddess kills these desires, thus helping her devotee (who are her children) attain the supreme truth and the nirvana without any obstacles.Goddess Durga is worshiped throughout India as the mother goddess, fondly called as 'Ma Durga'. She is the sacred, the divine feminine - the 'shakti' or the feminine power. Her paintings are auspicious and much revered and loved.
